The journey from design conception to final installation can run so much more smoothly if all parties involved are clear of the process. Although the design process appears very methodical it is crucial in the implementation of managing the site, the building work and the budget. At Caroline Wood Design we follow a well used design process to ensure that every project considers all aspects of the environment in which the design is set.

1. Initial meeting

Caroline Wood will arrange to meet with the client in order to assess the scope of the project. This will help to establish what is required and define the client’s brief. This initial consultation is free.*

2. Survey

The site is measured and photographed

3. Presentation of design concept.

Caroline will present the client with mood boards and plans showing the proposed layout in order for the client to get an understanding for the feel of the interior. The purpose of the meeting is to allow the client and the designer to openly discuss all the design issues involved so that both parties are in agreement of the design concept.

4. Working drawings and design scheme.

All the detailed drawings including the furniture, electrical and lighting layouts are presented. These drawings will be required by the builders and joiners both for the purposes of pricing and constructing. The drawings and the sample boards showing finishes, fabrics and images of lighting and furnishings are approved by the client before proceeding onto the implementation of the design.

5. Documentation.

Separate schedules can be produced for the contractor. Each schedule will include the specifications and suppliers details for either, the finishes, lighting, ironmongery, sanitary ware or furniture.

6. Project management and site visits.

Caroline can work alongside contractors, artisans and suppliers in order to monitor their development ensuring that both the design and the budget are adhered to. Caroline will order and organize the delivery of items to site. Regular meetings on site will ensure that there is a healthy, continuous conversation between all parties. This is critical to the success of the design and the building process. The fee for project management will be agreed at this stage.

7. The final installation.

Once all works are complete and the site has been cleared, Caroline can arrange and place all the final loose items completing the interior. “I love to share the client’s excitement as we all see the design finally come together”

*Upon agreement, a letter of engagement detailing the fees will be sent to the client to sign.
